Thursday. In a Nutshell.

Since the arrival of Landen, I am not on a set schedule in the slightest and I am loving it. There are some things that I can count on doing everyday. The basic things like feeding Landen, changing Landen, dancing around the house with Landen (this kid won't let me sit down, but I view this as my workout/weight loss plan so I am ok with it), trying to eat something myself, sleeping and God willing taking a shower.

Thursday was an interesting day though. On top of all of the normal, everyday activities there was a ton of excitement going on in the Williams household. It all started when Chad came home for lunch and he let Grace outside. That dog only seems to moan to go outside when he is home, I think she has him wrapped around her paw. Chad left to go back to work and unbeknownst to me Grace was still outside. Around 1:15 I hear a dog bark and thought to myself, "Huh, that sounds like Grace." So I go downstairs to check our living room for Grace and she wasn't there. Where is that dog? I walk by the back door and there she was. She was waiting to get back into the house, but she looked different. She looked a bit grey and she is a tan colored dog. Hmmm, that means... Damnit. We have a dirt patch by our back door and recently this dog has become quite fond of rolling around in the dirt. I mean, it is full on rolling- laying on her back and just wiggling back and forth, back and forth around in the dirt. Needless to say, she gets freaking dirty. I let Grace back in the house and not only is she crazy dirty, she smells pretty horrible. "Upstairs! You're getting a bath!!!" She gives me the supreme puppy dog eyes and they weren't even close to bailing her out of this bath. She pouts all the way upstairs and she acted like jumping into the bathtub was the hardest thing she has ever had to do in her life.

Landen was up in his crib wide awake, so I knew I only had 5 minutes, 7 minutes max, to give Grace a bath. I quickly rinse Grace off and the water is black from all of the dirt coming off of her. Gross. I squirt just a ton of shampoo on this dog and start to furiously scrub the dirt off of her. There are soap suds all over this dog. Then, uh oh! I hear a knock on the door and Ty runs down to the front door and starts to freak out (again, this dog screams, not barks). It was the Fedex guy making a delivery. Grace hears Ty barking up a storm at the front door and she just bolts out of the bathtub. I was surprised at how fast she moved and I didn't stand a chance at stopping this soapy freight train. We usually have the bathroom door closed when we are giving dogs a bath, but this time I had it open so I could listen for Landen. Boy, oh boy, was leaving that door open a big mistake. After Grace jumps out of the bathtub (still all soaped up and dripping dirty water) she runs into the hallway, shakes the soap and water off of her, then runs downstairs to see what Ty was up to. Then she shakes again in the entryway sending soap and water everywhere. Awesome, just awesome. Dirt water and soap suds in every spot imaginable between our bathroom and our front door.

By the time Grace reached the front door, Landen started to cry so I had to get this crazy dog back upstairs into the bathtub to finish her bath and I had to go check on Landen. I yelled at Grace to get back upstairs and she didn't even try to use the puppy dog eye approach on me. She knew she was in big, big trouble. I got Grace back in the bathtub, checked on Landen to pop the pacifier back in his mouth, then quickly finished Grace's bath. After her bath was over, it seemed like it took her an eternity to get out of the tub but I knew that she was capable of just jumping out of the tub because she just demonstrated her ability a few minutes prior to that. She got absolutely no sympathy from me. She finally made it out, got dried off and then she was set free. I walked out into the hall to survey the damage and it was not pretty and I was scared to see what our entryway looked like. Sure enough, all of our windows, walls, floors and white woodwork had brown water and soap all over them. The clean up was going to have to wait, I had a crying baby to take care of and I had to get out of the house or I was going to start crying too- so we took a walk. A very long walk.

A couple hours later when Landen went down for a nap, my OCD went in to overdrive and the cleanup began. Chad got home at 5 and found me washing our windows in the entryway. At first, I am sure he just thought I was being crazy and felt like cleaning windows, but then I gave him a play by play of the events that occurred that afternoon. If what happened wasn't so funny, I definitely would have been upset and demanded that we give our dogs away. But seriously, the timing of it all was just so perfect and priceless that I just thought it was hilarious. What are the chances that the FedEx guy would come at the exact time that Grace was getting a bath with the door open?
